New York: Crossen Publications / Spark Publications , 1946 Both issues of Spark Publications' Atoman, published in February and April of 1946, are presented here. Written by Ken Crossen, and illustrated with beautiful artwork by Jerry Robinson. Issue #1 is a FINE copy, with minimal handling, very slight foxing, and a slight parting of the cover at the single centre staple, otherwise a very attractive copy, with bright cover and internally very clean throughout. Issue #2 is a VERY GOOD copy with creasing to lower front corner, mild separation at single centre staple, slight staining to rear cover, but a solid copy, very clean and bright throughout. While working as a nuclear scientist at the "Atomic Institute," Barry Dale absorbs the "power of the atom" through unconscious exposure to nuclear materials and gains superpowers as a result. As described by Barry himself: "Evidently my body is so geared as a result of working on radium and uranium that it can explode atoms and give me atomic strength." He uses his new abilities -- such as super strength, flight, speed, invulnerability, "atomic vision," and the ability to heat his body so that he can weld metal with his hands -- to fight crime.

Description:
Milano: Max Bunker Press, 1989. Softcover. Illustrated by Magnus (Roberto Raviola). The set reprints the first thirty-six issues of the series which were originally published in the 1960s. Kriminal is considered one of the first noir comics to appear in Italy together with Diabolik; the light eroticism which transpired from some of the stories created censorship problems for the authors. The average condition for the set is very good to near fine with light foxing to edges and very moderate shelf wear; one issue has a pen marking on front cover. In the Italian language. A nice set.; 12 x 17 cm.

Pelc, Ant., Lev Haas, and Holobrádek. RP karikatury. Prague: Redakce Rudého práva, 1947. First Edition, First Printing. Oblong Octavo (8 1/8 x 5 3/4 inches; 208 x 145 mm), 75, [5] pages, in wrappers (soft cover).A rare book of cartoons published by the Czech Communist Party newspaper, Rudé právo. Antonin Pelc and Lev Haas drew the cartoons, which are pro-Communist, anti-Nazi, anti-American, and anti-Western alliance. Holobrádek (a pseudonym) supplied short verses to accompany each cartoon. The book appeared in 1947, a year before the Communist seizure of power in Czechoslovakia. Oddly, the cover features a cartoon by Pelc that misspells the name of Klement Gottwald, the Communist leader (it shows only one "t" in Gottwald). A sign displayed in the cartoon reads (translating from the Czech): "The construction of a two-year plan is carried out by Gotwald and others." That's a fair representation of the sometimes heavy-handed propaganda in the book, which depicts American businessmen as fat… Read More
