About This Item
New York: Robert M. Mcbride & Company, 1935. xx,(2),23-339 pp. Octavo. Original light blue cloth with silver gilt title on front board and spine. A touch of very light wear on the boards. Photographic endpapers. Original pictorial dust wrapper which has a bit of wear on the top and bottom of the spine. A couple of old closed tears and folds on the rear wrapper. The wrapper is not price clipped. 45 sepia coloured illustrations of which a single illustration is coloured and is an early stereo image of Mount Everest. Double page map. Early paper mounted stereoviewer in pocket tipped onto the rear endpaper. A clean attractive copy complete with the scarce viewer often missing. Neate R99. The American first edition of the Everest 1933. Ruttledge led this major British attempt which was very close to success. This first American edition must have the first attempt to show Everest in 3D and is not included in the earlier British edition. A much superior copy in the illusive dust wrapper. 1935
