published by Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1937,. see description. second reprint of that year's first edition, large heavy 8vo, 356pp, frontis portrait-bust of Augustus, 3 other full-page photoplates; Octavius aged sixteen, Augustus in armour, and a beautifully-draped statue of Augustus, a folded pull-out chart of The Household of Augustus, and bound in at the back a folded tinted map of The Empire under Augustus, original cloth, title gilt on spine, in gilt on the upper board a 'standing stone' inscribed Immensa Romanae Pacis Majestas, a one-inch split in the cloth over the front hinge, there is a slight wobble to the book, there is a 'ridge' on the spine, although there are faint spots on the cut fore-edge these in no way interfere with the text which is clean and well laid out, top edge gilt, vg+.
