About This Item
Macmillan. Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1967. First American Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Extensive underlining, marginal notes, [in pencil] on first 23 pages. Dust jacket is very good. Rueff, a brilliant French economist who duelled with Keynes in 1920s, was a founding member of the Mont Pelerin Society, managed France's monetary policy under Charles de Gaule, has long argued the Gold-Exchange system put in place after World War I was unsustainable and a danger to freedom and prosperity. His policy in France - demanding actual gold transfers from the united States - was influential in later forcing Richard Nixon to close the "gold window" in August 1971. Rueff was correct that the Gold-Exchange system was unsustainable, but his prediction of high rates of inflation has been less successful, so far. ; 8.20 X 5.70 X 1.20 inches; 215 pages .
