NY, Presbyterian Hospital, 1947, first edition, wrappers. Softcover.. A very scarce pamphlet written by Steinbeck about this New York hospital that apparently had served his family well, even the hospital itself doesn't own a copy, laid in loosely is a memorandum about this pamphlet signed by the hospital president, Charles P. Cooper, this is one of the more elusive of all Steinbeck "A" items, Goldstone & Payne A24a, Morrow 187, but neither record this memorandum, the whole is now housed in a custom clam-shell case. The memorandum is aged and quite brittle, but the book itself is fine.

The book is about literary and artistic London in the 1900s, and the area of London covered is Chelsea, Soho, and Hampstead. The jacket has an inch chip on the top edge of the front panel, affecting the title lettering, and some minor chipping at the tail of the spine, front flap almost detached but holding. Fast's second book, which he later disowned as a "half-assed, hysterical novel." Inscribed on the front free endpaper, "to ---- / Merry Christmas / Happy New Year / 1944-1945 / Howard." Scarce in any format, especially in jacket and inscribed.
