About This Item

Grosset & Dunlap, New York, 1912. Note that the date is the year of the original publication by A.C. McClurg. This Grosset & Dunlap reprint would have come a few years later. Hardcover. Very Good- Condition/Poor. Illustrator: P.V.E. Ivory. After he was established as a pulp writer, Seltzer also became an early screenwriter, credited with 15 screenplays for Westerns from 1917 to 1927 and one more in 1936. Size: 7.5"-8" - Small Octavo (Sm. 8vo). 311 pages. Hardcover bound in red cloth over boards with the title on the front cover and spine in black. The text block is slightly shaken. The pages have toned with age. The dust jacket features a great piece of lurid pulp art (which is repeated in the glossy frontis with the text "Eleanor's pulses leaped in terror . . . repulsive passion lay naked in his eyes." Whew! There is an extensive catalog of the company's "list of Copyright Fiction" printed on the reverse, which "includes nearly all the great successes of [rec]ent years." Unfortunately, the jacket is badly torn, though the clear sleeve is holding it together so it shows well. There are a couple of shallow chips at the head of the spine, on of which carried through in a tear that goes down through most of the jacket and cuts 2/3rds of the way across the spine at the bottom of the "Author of" note listing other Seltzer titles. There is some chipping at the foot of the spine as well, but not affecting any text. The rear flap is completely detached from the jacket. The previous owner must have wanted to hang on to this book! He has stamped his signature on the front and rear pastedowns, the front free end paper and the last page of the text. The top page edge is darkened from exposure and there is some scattered spots from foxing, particularly on the top edge. Illustrator: P.V.E. Ivory. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Fiction; Western; United States; 1900-1920; Main Picture: Seltzer (1912), "Beau" Rand - Front and back panels of the dust jacket with spine. Picture 2: Seltzer (1912), "Beau" Rand - Back and front panels of the dust jacket with page edges. Picture 3: Seltzer (1912), "Beau" Rand - Front and back covers with spine.
