Aussi célèbre, aussi adulé que controversé, Bernard Buffet (1928-1999) a construit son ?uvre avec une résolution tragique. En une symphonie éclatante, la vie et la mort s'y inscrivent comme sur le masque d'un clown. La photographie a saisi cela. Cet album est né d'une triple rencontre. Le peintre, la femme aimée et le photographe : en 1958, lors d'un reportage à Saint-Tropez, Luc Fournol présenté Annabel à Bernard Buffet. Quarante-cinq ans plus tard, la compagne de toute une vie commente les photographies de Luc, devenu l'ami de toujours. Le premier portrait d'Annabel, la Passion du Christ, les damnés de Dante ou l'épreuve de l'autoportrait il fallait la complicité d'un proche pour saisir le combat d'un peintre que l'inquiétude n'a jamais quitté. Car l'intimité d'un artiste, c'est son travail. Et les mystères de l'atelier sont plus difficiles à percer que les secrets d'alcôve. Reflets d'une vie partagée entre tendre complicité, et tension créatrice, les photographies de Luc Fournol et de Benjamin Auger se font l'écho de la sincérité avec laquelle, à chaque tableau, l'artiste remit son titre en jeu. Car si Bernard Buffet a pu se tromper, il n'a jamais triché. En mettant fin à ses jours, le 4 octobre 1999, il tira la leçon de ce combat qu'il quittait en vainqueur, pour n'avoir jamais renoncé à sa liberté ni aux valeurs qui en faisaient le prix. Ami de jeunesse, témoin amical des événements de la vie de Bernard Buffet, Luc Fournol, mieux que tout autre photographe, a su dresser le portrait de l'artiste face à son ?uvre.

Terms and conditions of sale. Books are offered if unsold. The order of incoming orders will be respected strictly. Orders can be placed via e-mail (info@erik-tonen-books.be), or in writing, preferably not by telephone. The books that are offered online are not available at our bookshop at 48 Kloosterstraat. You will receive an e-mail confirming the availability of the book(s) and providing details with regard to shipment costs (we use Belgian and Dutch postal companies for the most cost-effective shipments. The indicated shipment costs have been calculated according to the rates for shipments of up to 2 kilo. We will choose the most cost-effective shipment option, depending on the weight: either letter post or parcel post. Payment must be made before delivery; ordered books will be reserved during 12 days in expectation of payment or confirmation of shipment. Payment can be made by transferring money to our Belgian bank; banktransfer IBAN BE48 4098 5839 0127 and the BIC (Bank Identifier Code)(swift) / KREDBEBB , Payment via Paypal account erik.tonen@pandora.be is also possible. Prices are net prices and free of VAT (margin arrangement) and expressed in euros. Shipment and payments costs are charged to the customer. Each shipment contains a delivery slip. Ordered books will remain our property until payment has been received. Our books are shipped in decently packaged form; The state of the books is not specified if the works are in good condtion (smaller, minor defects such as an ex libris stamp, a name on the first page, minimal wear and tear etc. are not specified, unless specifically requested). If the ordered works do not match the specified description, they may be reshipped within seven days after receipt, after prior notice.
