"At the time of the Council of Trent, when the Vulgate was declared 'authentic,' the Roman Church possessed no duly authorized edition which was accepted as a standard. [The first] and the second Louvain revisions were practically accepted as authorized editions until the publication of the Sixtine Bible of 1590." (D&M 6129)

This 1583 printing is a reissue of the original 1574 edition, revised by members of the Louvain University faculty and published by the famous Plantin Press. This Bible was published with the help of King Philip II of Spain

1624 BIBLE Biblia Sacra Tremellius Junius OT Theodore Beza NT + Apocrypha Latin
In 1565, French Protestant Theodore Beza issued an edition of the Greek New Testament with the Vulgate. His translation of the New Testament would become extremely important and popular throughout Europe, especially among Calvinists. According to many scholars, Beza's interpretation of the text, along with his translation, were extremely helpful to theological scholars who came after him.
This 17th-century Biblia Sacra features the famous Beza New Testament as well as the Junius & Tremellius Old Testament Latin translation. The Tremellius-Junius Bible, an important Reformed translation, was very influential on Reformation dogmatics which helped shape Protestant theology in the 18th-century. According to Fletcher, the pairing of these two translations are often found printed together. It features the Junius Apocrypha and a preface of Andrew Marvell (Andreas Rivetus).

From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
