About This Item

Cincinnati: Published for the Author, 1838. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo. vi, (7)-267,(1)pp. Contemporary brown sheep nicely rebacked to style. Red and black lettering labels, gilt. Occasional light foxing, board edges worn, else a very good copy.

A collection of biographies of four early settlers of the American West. The subjects of the biographies were all important figures in the early history of the region, and their stories provide a valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities faced by pioneers.

General Nathaniel Massie was a prominent military leader and politician in the early 19th century. He served in the War of 1812 and played a key role in the development of Ohio. General Duncan McArthur was another important military leader who served in the War of 1812 and the Indian wars. He was also a popular governor of Ohio. Captain William Wells was a scout and spy who played a vital role in the American victory at the Battle of Tippecanoe. General Simon Kenton was a frontiersman and Indian fighter who was known for his bravery and skill.

A valuable resource for anyone interested in the early history of the American West. The book is well-written and provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of four important figures in American history.
