Original blue cloth, titled in gilt on spine, with matching blue dust-jackets, titled in white, each with a colour plate of a bird; pp.xxxi, 358; xlviii, 207; xviii, 262; xix, 458, 107 plates, of which 49 are coloured plates of birds by D.M. Reid-Henry, 15 maps, one folding, and numerous wood-engraved illustrations throughout; wrappers of vol IV with tape reairs to reverse, otherwise extremely clean, very good indeed. First edition. An important and beautifully illustrated study of the avifauna of the Atlantic Islands, rarely found in such good condition. This book represents one of the major achievements of the illustrator, David Morrison Reid Henry (1919 - 1977) who, after the death of Lodge, became the Bannermans' main collaborator.
