The format of this book is a reading reference to cover all birds found within Israel along with a small sample of good photographs. Depending on the status of the bird in the country, each species is given 1/4 to a full page of text. Most birds are discussed by several topics which include description, habit and distribution, behavior, and nesting. The information provided by the author is thorough and reflects a great familiarity of the bird's natural history due to his own research and experience. Although the book is mostly a reference, it does contain color photos of 60 of Israel's 500+ species. These photographs are all of good quality in both size and pose. They represent a smattering of bird families from herons to ducks to shorebirds, raptors, pipits, and ravens. This book will appeal to anyone with an interest in the birds of the Middle East and to those with a special interest in understanding more about each of the birds found in Israel.This copy is in really good condition, but given 'good' due to an ink stain on the leading edge of the pages.
