About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster. Near Fine in Good dj. 1954. 2nd printing. Hardcover. [the book itself is nice and clean, with just the tiniest bit of wear to the bottom corners, and a previous owner's bookplate on the front endpaper; the jacket is heavily worn (especially at edges), with a small piece missing at the bottom right-hand corner of the front panel, minor paper loss at both ends of spine, some old tape-repair at bottom of spine]. The author's first mainstream success as a novelist, and the basis for the 1955 film of the almost-same name (the movie dropped the THE for some reason), directed by Richard Brooks and starring Glenn Ford as the inner-city schoolteacher who out-toughs the tough-guy JDs. .

We are dedicated to the first-class treatment of every book we sell and its new owner (our customer). All orders and inquiries receive our prompt, personal attention. Your book will be shipped promptly, well-wrapped and securely packaged; the dust jacket, if any, will be enclosed in a new Brodart cover.
