About This Item
New York: E.P. Dutton &Co., Inc., 1916. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good Plus. Octavo. Photoplates. New York: E.P. Dutton, 1916. First Edition. Illustrated with photoplates. 9 3/8" x 6 3/8"; 321 pp. Blue Cloth, gilt lettering. Strong, handsome very good plus copy, with just a bit of spine fade and some sporadic small scuffs. Contents virtually pristine; a couple of sentences lightly underlined in pencil, else fines. Sharp copy. More than 200 illustrations of the subject art form and plenty of informed text, themed around "Early American Scenes and History Pictured in the Pottery of the Time". With a section as well on the White House china collection as it was at the time of publication, and a "checking list" for the colllector. Apparently the somewhat expanded version of what appears to be two different 1916 Dutton first editions, one with 309 pp and the other with 321 pp. This example has 321. The difference may lie in the supplemental chapters, which in this form are: " A-The White House Collection of Presidential China" (at page 245); "B-Checking List of American Views Found Upon English-Old Pottery" (at page 267) "C-The Willow Pattern and Other Important Blue China Series", (at page 287) and "D-Auction Prices of Historical Blue Staffordshire Pottery" (at page 293). l31
