About This Item

London: Dean and Son Ltd. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Full colour, shiny, red-based, pictorial, paper-covered board to the front cover, with a red cloth spine (somewhat faded red). The front cover pictures a golliwog popping out of a 'jack-in-a- box' and a startled Bonzo. The rear cover is plain 'buff' (or grey) boards with the 'added decoration' by a child of some 'Kay' stamps down the top inner rear edge. The edges and corners of the paper-covered boards have been rubbed and a previous owner has coloured the points of the paper/edges where rubbed/scuffed, to match. There is an old gift note in slightly faded ink on the front pastedown giving the date 'Xmas 1947'. "This Book belongs to..." has also been written in by the then 'new' owner with his name. Some light foxing spots (light yellowy-brown spotting) here and there in the book - but mainly to the page fore-edges, prelims and end papers, with some small light spots to the title page. The body of the book is VERY CLEAN with NO child's colouring or other marks. A full colour Frontispiece opposite the title page, and the title is illustrated in black/red with Bonzo holding a paint brush, and an old-style ink pen, etc. Profusely illustrated throughout in duo-tones of red/black and orange/black. Now in a clear - removable - protective plastic cover. Overall a very clean, tight and bright near VG copy. See Images. ; Small 4to 10" - 11" tall .
