Covers edgeworn and joints weak, front cover held by binder's cords, text block sound with no loosened pages, pages clean with some age-toning and a fairly faint dampstain to the lower right hand area through most of the first half of the book, affecting only the lower three lines of text at the most, no chips or tears. . Folio (11 x 14 1/2 inches). 556 pp. pp. with printing in red and black, elaborate floriated borders based on designs by Bertram Grovesnor. Publisher's full vellum with gilt lettering and decoration, brass clasps, deckle edges. At one point a pious soul laid a carnation in the book to be flattened; offsetting to the leaves touching. A very appealing copy. Custom acrylic slipcase. The issue of this title with floriated borders indicates it was a subscriber's copy. Copies for clerical distribution had red rules in place of the borders.
