New York, New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1875. First Edition. . Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. G+/1st ed. More a reading copy than a collectible copy, still in reasonable condition for a children's school book that's 141 years old. General wear to cover; all corners bumped and boards exposed at tips. Cloth worn with some tearing at top and bottom of spine. Embossed boards with lettering in bright gilt on front and spine. Blue painted pastedown and front free endpapers. The textblock is starting to pull away from the covers at the top, though the bottom half of the textblock is firmly attached. A little foxing to the title page, a very little amount scattered throughout. No marking or writing, no soiling. 186pp. with a list of the International Scientific Series, and four pages of advertisements, many illustrations. This title is uncommon, especially in first edition, but the most noteworthy point about it is that it's a science book written by a woman in 1875 and also illustrated by a woman. Comes to you in an archival document bag. I own this book and can have it in the mail tomorrow.
