About This Item
New York: W W Norton & Co Inc, 1971. Stated First Edition. Hardcover. Good +/fair. Black and white photographs and Bill Maudlin's black & white illustrations. "This book can serve a multitude of uses to a multitude of readers: A "sort of" history of WWII; the story of how a young man from humble and poor beginings won a pulitzer prize for editorial cartooning, how an aspiring cartoonist gained national recognition and how other aspiring cartoonists may go about becoming recognized themselves. Highly entertaining with one of the most humorous and climactic endings I have ever had the pleasure to read." - review by B Seymour"If you want a worms eye view of the grim reality of the WWII Italian campaign then here you go. Bill Mauldin is one of my all time favorite Writers and more importantly Cartoonist. This gritty, humorous book about one of Americas toughest campaigns is one of the best books I have ever read. His story about Patton is worth the price of the book alone. But there is so much more and I don't want to give it away. I can not recommend this book too highly !" - review by D D Lawson. Book is in good condition with moderate wear, edges well-rubbed and corners bumped. The spine is slightly slanted and the upper page block shows a little age discoloration. The dust jacket, not price-clipped but lower front flap is clipped, is only fair with considerable wear to the edges and at the corners, several closed tears, chipping to the edges and spine ends, age discoloration to the edges. The price has been crossed out and two other prices written in. First bIank page past the flyleaf has a tiny mark, might be pencil residue.
