About This Item

(New York): Delacorte, 1973. 303 pp, 8 1/2" H. B&w drawings. "Kurt Vonnegut bids farewell and Godspeed to all of the literary characters who have worked so hard for him over the years. Their unconditional liberty is the author's fiftieth birthday present to himself. Only Kilgore Trout, the science-fiction writer, is told of his new freedom from the whims of the author, He is promised a Nobel Prize as compensation for the pointlessness and bitterness of his life so far. For the others, Eliot Rosewater and all the rest, the author's birthday will seem a day like any other. This book answers once and for all the question, 'To what extent are human beings sacred, and to what extent are they machines?' " Light lean to the spine, light toning to the pages, light wear at the corners of the boards - with a small bump at the top corner of the rear board, light wrinkling and wear at the top/bottom of the spine. Dust jacket is clipped at the bottom corner of the front flap, light to moderate edge wear with some very small tears and small creases - mostly at the top/bottom of the spine and flap-folds, very light soiling on the flaps, a 2" thin light stain on the inside of the front flap-fold - now protected in removable mylar sleeve.. Not Signed. Book Club. Hard Cover. Very Good-/Good. Illus. by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Jacket Design by Bob Giusti..

Synopsis

Breakfast of Champions, or Goodbye Blue Monday is a 1973 novel by the American author Kurt Vonnegut. Set in the fictional town of Midland City, it is the story of "two lonesome, skinny, fairly old white men on a planet which was dying fast. " One of these men, Dwayne Hoover, is a normal-looking but deeply deranged Pontiac dealer and Burger Chef franchise owner who becomes obsessed with the writings of the other man, Kilgore Trout, taking them for literal truth.
