There is a two-inch tape mend to one leaf causing offsetting to adjacent leaves; some bumps and abrasions to the cloth cover; endsheets with offsetting where tape may once have been used to secure a dust jacket; lacking jacket itself.. 8vo, 425pp; cloth. Nicely inscribed on the first leaf: "To Ruth Gruber from Floyd Dell, with much admiration for her true and beautifully told tales of life in the Soviet Arctic -- April 1945, Washington D.C." Gruber, prolific journalist, photographer, and humanitarian, was the first reporter to travel to the Arctic region of the Soviet Union in 1934, reporting for the New York Herald Tribune on developments there, the role of women in establishing new settlements, as well as the building of the Siberian gulags.
