The campaign against slavery, which was fougt so actively in the nineteenth century, was among the most significant and charactristic movements of th age, It was one of the first social movements to operate on a truly international scale, for abolitionists were concerned not merely with slavery in the United States or the West Indfies, but with condition in Africa, the Nea East, India, New Zealand and South America.The author transcribed nearly 500 letters from the William LLoyd Garrison (1805-1879) collection housed at Harfard. Bound in dark blue silk cloth, spine lettering gilt. A fine bright copy in fine dust jacket lettered in blue and black.
