London: Cassell, Petter, and Galpin, 1873-75. Leather. Good. 10" by 7.5". Various. A comprehensive history of British land and sea battles from Cassell. Including chapters on the Battle of Hastings, the war in Bhotan, capture of the Coomassie, and much more. Illustrated throughout with hundreds of vignette engravings and thirty-two engraved plates Printed in two columns. James Grant (18221887) was a Scottish author. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was a distant relation of Sir Walter Scott. He was a prolific author, writing some 90 books, including many yellow-backs. Titles included Adventures of an Aide-de-camp, One of "The six hundred", The Scottish Musketeers and The Scottish Cavalier. Complete in three volumes. In half-morocco bindings. Externally, sound, though with some rubbing and marks. Some dampstaining to the boards. Slight staining to the pastedowns. The front and rear hinges are strained, but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound though with one plate detached. Tidemarks to the plates, and the textblock edge. Pages are generally bright and clean, though with a few instances of foxing. Good
