About This Item
Bury [St. Edmunds]: J. Rackham, 1814. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 195mm x 300mm in size. Slightly trimmed, lightly browned, small amount of loss to left hand side, probably from once being removed from an album, lightly creased, a couple of small tears to margins, with a couple of pencilled corrections/additions to the text. Festival dinner held in Bury St. Edmunds, one of many held around the country, to celebrate the peace and defeat of Bonaparte (slightly prematurely). It ended with an effigy of Napoleon being burned. Suffolk Record Office have a different broadside for the same event, promising other events, including donkey races, male (winner gets a pair of shoes) and female (winner gets a copper kettle) races, and a pig hunt (winner keeps the pig!). For the printer J.[ohn] Rackham (fl.1778-1821), see BBTI. Not found in Library Hub. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 4to. Broadside.
