"Embellished with magnificent illustrations, from original designs by Stephens, engraved by Beeler." The Cabin and Parlor is an example of pro-slavery plantation literature that emerged from the Southern United States in response to the abolitionist novel Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, which had been published in book form in that year, (Wright, American Fiction; v. 2 (1851-1875) 1878).
