Description:
Charleston: Evans & Cogswell, 1860. Paperback. 8vo. Wrappers. 6pp. Very good. Although the goal of this report was to urge the state conventions of South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida "that no final separate State action shall be taken upon the question of secession from the Union, until a general Convention of the Southern States can be had," it was not received before South Carolina's withdrawal; therefore, this pamphlet became South Carolina's attempt "briefly to state the causes which induced the passage of the Ordinance" to Georgians. This she does, passionately, and, yes, briefly. A very scarce Confederate imprint. PARRISH 3815.

Description:
1869 Confederate Navy Memoirs of Raphael Semmes Service Afloat Civil WAR RARE
Raphael Semmes was a Confederate officer in the American Civil War, commanding ships in the Confederate and the United States Navy. He published a collection of memoirs and war reminiscences describing his service in the navy during the Civil War under the title 'Service Afloat'. However, this work is primarily looked at as a defense of his actions during the Confederacy's inevitable loss, or 'Lost Cause'.
According to Nevins, this work is
"a first-hand, subjective account by the captain of the CSS Sumpter and the Alabama, interestingly written."
