New York: Willis McDonald & Co, 1886. Hardcover. Near Fine. First Edition. viii, 302 p., tissue-guarded frontispiece and 14 leaves of plates (portraits); 26 cm. Modern leather spine and corners with new gilt-tooled spine title. Original boards with gilt-stamped cover emblem and title "History of 71st Reg't N.G.S.N.Y." All edges gilt. Original marbled endpapers. Includes index to biographical sketches. This history of the 71st Regiment of the National Guard of the State of New York is based on the Regimental Minute Book from 1861 to 1870, New York newspaper accounts, scrap books, interviews with veterans, a journal and diary kept by Sgt. J. T. Woolsey, and official reports of officers during the Civil War. Very scarce. In Near Fine Condition: rebacked as described above; occasional light foxing on margins of plates; otherwise, clean and tight.
