Very Good in a Very Good plus, price-clipped example of the rare dust jacket. Jacket is lightly toned at the spine, with some light chipping along the top edge, no titling affected.
An important proletarian novel set in the world of cotton-growers in Texas, the locale for most of the author's fiction. Scarborough was also a noted folklorist, known especially for her field work in the world of folk music from the southern highlands of North Carolina and in Texas. Her other novels include "The Wind," a feminist classic that was the basis for the famous 1928 silent film. The only jacketed copy with have ever seen. Hanna 3134.

Relatively minor edgewear to the boards, a little fading on the spine, line on back cover, but overall a tight and straight copy.. First printing. Novel about the life of tenant farmers in Texas and the plight of the farmer in general by this Texas-born folklorist and novelist. A significant association copy as this is INSCRIBED by the author on the title page 'For Mr. Alexander Legge, with appreciation of his services to the American farmer" and dated July 29, New York City. Legge was President of International Harvester from 1922 until his death in 1933, chairman of the Federal Farm Board under President Hoover, and one of the founders and principal contributors to the Farm Foundation in 1933.
