ROBINSON, W Heath. 1st Heath Robinson Illustrated Edition 18.8 x 25.5cm red cloth with a white panel to the centre of the front board and gilt stamped titles and decoration to the front and spine. Top edge red, xii 288 (2) with 16 tipped in coloured plates with captioned tissue guards and 88 black and white illustrations. The boards are clean and bright with some fading to the spine and a little pushing to the spine tips. Internally, there is a gift inscription dated 1916 to the front free endpaper, a small 1 cm bruise to the bottom edge of p176 not affecting the image and with no loss and occasional very light marking. Small spot to the top of the front board is the only mark to the boards. Biographies and descriptions of paintings. Numerous black and white examples of artworks. Nice clean condition, with some age toning and moderate darkening to the page edges. Thomas Patrick Bodkin (1887–1961) was an Irish lawyer, art historian, art collector and curator. Bodkin was Director of the National Gallery of Ireland. 236 pages. 210 x 170 mm (8¼ x 6¾ inches).

Twelve tipped-in illustrations in color by Charles Robinson, with captioned tissue guards. (Lacking tissue guard at page 66 and marginal closed tears on the tissue guard at page 80) Many textual illustrations and pictorial endpapers, all by Robinson. Aside from the fault with two of the tissue guards and a bit of wear at the corners, this is a near fine copy of the First American Edition.
