Having `inherited' Drummond from his late friend, Sapper, in 1937, initially Fairlie seemed to be at a loss as to how to use Big Hugh. Hence 1938's novelisation of a play (`Bulldog Drummond on Dartmoor') and 1939's entertaining, but obviously water-treading homage that was 'Bulldog Drummond Attacks'.
