Paris; Mercure de France, 1913., 1913. Hard Cover. INSCRIBED COPY. French text. Small octavo, pp 351. 2 portrait plates with tissue guards, including frontispiece of Thomas Carlyle. Half blue polished calf with marbled boards by A Renaud with gilt ruling to edges and gilt titles & decoration to spine; marbled endpapers. Original yellow paper cover bound-in; yellow silk placemarker. Corners bumped with wear and edges lightly rubbed. Binder's ticket to front pastedown. Ownership inscription to verso ffep and to title page, with a little annotation to verso p 351. Lengthy inscription by the Massons in purple ink to half title dated in the year of publication, 1913. Page edges toned; scattered foxing, mainly to prelims. French translation of Norton's text of Thomas Carlyle's posthumous publication of his wife's work, taken from her diaries. Scarce.
