Philadelphia: Henry Carey Baird (Successor to E.L. Carey), 1856. Later edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 8vo. [2], 3-339, [1], 24 (pages of publisher's advertisements), [4] pp. Quarter-bound in fine-grain calf over marbled boards, marbled textblock, endpapers, and pastedowns. Spine has four raised bands and a dark brown morocco label with gilt lettering. Illustrated by a steel-etched frontispiece. A lovely, finely-bound edition of Byron's narrative poem centered on a disillusioned young man roaming the world in search of fulfillment, a true and accurate reflection of pieces of Byron's own life and the struggles of the Romantic poets and artists. A Very Good+ book with minor rubbing to the edges of the boards and a contemporary gift inscription dated 1860: "Fannie C. Sargent from her sincere friend John D., December 25th 1860
