String-bound tall octavo, pp. 19 + [1]. Some pages unopened at top edge. Translation of a 17th century letter from Peter Paul Rubens to eminent Antwerp humanist Jan Caspar Gevaerts describing Rubens' second visit to Madrid in 1628-1629. "Rubens had gone on a secret mission to the Spanish court as special envoy of the Infanta Isabella, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands." Front cover features an engraving of Jan Caspar Gevaerts by Paulus Pontius after Rubens. Moderate wear, as with age and handling, but still GOOD and sound and ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve with white cardstock backing board.
