New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1946. Hardcover. Very Good Plus/Very Good. Crawford, Bill. STATED FIRST EDITION. Very mild edgewear to extremities. Dustjacket very good. Fold flaps tanned. One very tiny closed tear to front upper edge of pictorial jacket (second state, with Mencken's face and glasses complete). Gilt lettering debossed to periwinkle-blue, cloth-covered boards. A 2.75 x 2.75" color paste-on illustration to front board. Pictorial endpapers. Color and black and white illustrations. Clean, tight, bright. 32 pp. According to the author, this is "a Christmas story to surpass, transcend and put an end to all other Christmas stories." (front flap). There is a little "psychology, sociology, theology (both moral and dogmatic), ethics, aesthetics, economics, penology, psychiatry and sex appeal" all rolled into this poignant little story.
