Plates all "del" or "invenit" by Gravelot or Cochin, with various engravers named.. 232 by 153mm Volume III (of IV) octavo "en brochure", uncut thus edges dusty with all illustrated plates loosely laid in but all text pages in gatherings of 8 leaves. Half title + engraved titlepage + 48 plates but the first plate lacking its text [ie pages 1 & 2] + 100pp + partial index (index lacks A-N pp101-4 but p105/6 present covering letters N to Z). The plates are not within the collation and loose (as from the publisher) and only some are numbered but numbers are not sequential and several have the same number although the plates are not the same. A married set in very good condition. Second edition, 1758, London. Original full leather boards. Volume 1 has a new spine (sometime in last 50 years) by Edward F. Gruver, Washington, DC. V.1 has bookplate and pencil notations of prior owner and booksellers, no other markings. The first four leaves after the map are loose at the bottom and remain attached at the top. Volume 2 has the original binding, no interior markings of any kind. Wait and Co. xviii, [1], 432, lxxvii, [9] p., frontispiece and 8 leaves of folded plates: tables; 23 cm. Modern bonded leather spine with dark brown cloth over boards. Gilt-tooled spine title. Includes index. Stamped at lower edge of title page: "Withdrawn from P.C.P. & S. Library" [Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science]. In Very Good- Condition: modern binding clean and bright; frontispiece, title page, and several following leaves have old stain; archival repair of loss in lower part of title page (no loss of printing); some foxing on folded plates; otherwise, clean and tight.

London: John Bowyer Nichols and Son, 1st edition, 1839. Hardcover. Good. Etched plates (30) by John Thomas Smith + portrait of author by J. Jackson R.A. engraved by W. Skelton.. Royal quarto, green cloth-spined marbled paper-covered boards, with defective gilt-titled spine label, xv (inc. half title, title, advertisement, contents and biography of author) + 99p +[1]p advert for author's Antiquities of Westminster. Some quite heavy scattered foxing, mosty on blank verso of plates and their margins. *The author was known as "Antiquity Smith" - although first published after his death, this book was prepared for press soon after publication in 1817 of his Vagabondiana or Anecdotes of Mendicant Wanderers through the Streets of London. So it was considered to be a continuation - the half title reads "VAGABONDIANA .. Volume II by John Thomas Smith London 1839".

Paris: The Obelisk Press, 1936 Internally very good with moderate browning, binding firm, some browning to spine and edges of wrapper, moderate wear to extremities of spine. The author's first book.

London: Charles Gilpin, 1848 pp iv + 512 + (12). Internally very good, owners signature, dated 1849, on fep, binding sound but cracking ( moderate) to hinges between inside covers and enpapers. The original decorative cloth cover is quite bright although there is significant fraying (about 4 cm) to the joins between top of spine and boards.

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1823 pp (6) + 187 , bound in contemporary half-calf, inside covers and endpapers marbled which has also been applied to page edges. An attractive copy with slight browning and a little wear to the extremities of the spine and corners.

Small quarto (11 x 8 1/4 inches) Published in the Interest of the Firemen's Relief Fund, December 1900. 116 pages of half tone black and white photos of early Los Angeles, portraits, and advertisements for Los Angeles businesses of the period.

Descriptive text includes a short history of the Los Angeles Fire Department: "In May, 1875, Engine Company No. 2 was organized."

Good condition: original red cloth binding, showing mild age toning, title on front cover, floral patterned end papers.

Many photos of early Los Angeles fire stations, with horse drawn equipment.

Portraits include: the mayor, the Fire Commissioners back to 1871, Chiefs, Captains, Lieutenants, Engine Drivers, Engineers, Hosemen, and Ladder men.
