[Boston]: [C.S.E. Cassino and E.K. Dunbar], 1882. First edition. Unbound. Fair (scraped, rubbed). Leighton, Scott. Original chromolithograph from The Celebrated Horses of America, printed by Armstrong & Co. Mounted on old board, with old hand-lettered title. Overall ca. 17 x 14 inches, image ca. 15 x 11 inches. The Celebrated Horses of America was a lavish collection of chromolithographed portraits of 24 running and trotting horses "from paintings by the best artists." Clingstone 2:14 was known as the demon trotter." Scott Leighton was a Boston-based artist whose works were often reproduced by Currier & Ives. Scarce in any condition; WorldCat locates very few complete sets of the portfolio. Shipping/handling will be extra; please keep this in mind when ordering.
