About This Item

New York: Crown Publishers, Inc., (1979). First Edition. Quarto, brown cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, 608 pp. Good+, with speckling to covers and light foxing (age darkened spotting) to endpapers; in a Very Good dust jacket with light edgewear. Includes The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Half-Dolls Price Guide: Quarto, paperbound (stapled self wrappers), 19 pp. Very Good, with a few pages dog-eared. From dust jacket: Here at last is the definitive book about china half-figures, those nostalgic reminders of the days when tea-cosies, boudoir lamps, perfum bottles and pincushions were topped with porcelain figures representing theupper portion of the human form. The authors have illustrated, described and coded hundreds of models of half-dolls, some found today in antique shops and flea markets, and others in private collections and museums. The book can be enjoyed on many levels, as a delightful picture book for the novice, a valuable reference for the collector,or a useful working tool for the dealer or museum curator. The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Half-Dolls now makes it possible to identify over a thousand models of these charming reminders of a not too distant past.
