About This Item

Tom Klinger Publishing. Hardcover. New. This is the story of the last railroad along Clear Creek until the demise of the narrow gauge operations of the Colorado & Southern west of Denver, Colorado in the spring of 1941. The formation of this railroad began on paper in 1865. Through various corporations and name changes, eventually this narrow gauge line became part of the Colorado & Southern, a subsidiary of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy which in turn was controlled by the Hill Lines, the Great Northern and Northern Pacific Railways. This is not a picture book only, there is much history in text supplemented by many pictures in Black and White. Most photographs are historical but a few are from more modern times. Contents: Dedication, Introduction, Acknowledgement, Maps, pp. 3-8, C&S, A New Railroad, 1899, pp. 9-16, C&S, Growth and New Technology, pp. 17-40, Scenic Attractions, Tourists and Freight, 1906-1913, pp. 41-64, Shadows in the Canon, 1913-1917, pp. 65-78, Lost Traffic, The Auto, 1917-1926, pp. 79-92, Retrenchment, 1926-1936, pp. 93-109, It is Official, Abandonment Authorized, 1936-1941, pp. 110-126, Last Scheduled C&S Canon Train, pp. 127-150, Final Canon Scrapping, 1941, pp. 151-166, C&S Narrow Gauge Trips 1937-1941, pp. 167-212, Golden to Denver After the Narrow Gauge, pp. 213-222, and Then Some (wrecks, equipment), pp. 223-226, Time Tables and Maps (station plats), pp. 227-238, Index, pp. 239-240. Many photographers and individuals contributed to this title which is hardbound and printed on high-quality, glossy paper. The C&S spelled the word Canyon as ""Canon"", and this is the spelling found in this title. Tom Klinger Publishing, hardcover, 240 pages, standard portrait layout 10 x 8 in., Black & White photographs, railroad pass illustrations, maps.

Terms of Sale

Arizona Hobbies LLC

I reduce shipping for books that weigh less than 1 lb. with packaging. International shipping rates are quoted for a 1 lb. book. International orders that weigh more than 1 lb. will require additional shipping fees.

All books are shipped sealed in plastic to help prevent damage. Sturdy boxes are used often with bubble-wrap and additional padding. Thin titles may ship in a sturdy mailer with cardboard reinforcing. You will not receive 'rounded' books from Arizona Hobbies as you will from Amazon.com with their shoddy packaging.

A a bar code label with USPS a Tracking/Delivery Confirmation number is applied to your shipment. You will be advised of via email of the tracking when your order ships. USPS Media Mail (books, DVDs, CDs, maps) transit time is almost as good as UPS Ground today. Using a bar code label helps move the mail more quickly.

I've only had only six lost and three damaged shipments out of 20,000+ since 1999. This includes International shipments. I use a freight forwarder for International shipments. Canadian shipments bypass the USPS and go directly to Windsor, Ontario via my freight forwarder. It may take up to 2 weeks before Canada Post tracking information is available as we must consolidate orders to forward.

Defective DVDs will be replaced by the same title if available. Since most of my books are in NEW CONDITION and still in the printers plastic shrink-wrap, opened and thumbed through titles become used and a 20 percent re-stocking/used charge will apply plus the shipping costs incurred.
