Red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. DJ protected by clear library sleeve. Reading copy, no names inside. DJ design uncredited. Very heavy book and priced accordingly. ; 646 pages; The author was the Reader in Russian Government and Politics at University of London and this work was the first fully documented history of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Now somewhat dated, the main part of the book is devoted to the period from the seizure of power in 1917 up to the death of Stalin. But is still a usual work on the subject, specifically for the early years when the bolsheviks were just one of many factions within the Russian Social Democratic movement, and the formative years up to the revolution in 1917. .
