Oxford: Limited Editions Club, 1930. Hardcover. About Fine in an intact but Good only slipcase with much wear. Zhenya Gay. Small folio (10" x 13-1/2") bound in canvas-backed Cockerell marbled paper boards. Illustrated with twelve lithographs drawn on the stone by Zhenya Gay and printed on hand-made Kelmscott paper by B. H. Newdigate at the Shakespeare Head Press. Of a total edition of 1520 copies SIGNED by the artist and the printer on the limitation page, this is one of only 15 Presentation Copies with the publisher's blindstamp attesting to such on the colophon page where the printed number "762" is struck through and the initials "G.M." are handwritten. Acquired directly from the publisher's files, and most likely the publisher George Macy's very own copy.

Synopsis

Confessions of an English Opium-eater is an autobiographical account written by Thomas de Quincey about his addiction to laudanum - a combination of opium and alcohol - and its effects. He first had it published anonymously in the London Magazine in 1821, but it was released as a book the following year.
