Two uncommon to see first edition novels by Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, uniformly bound by Smyth & Co of Liverpool. A set containing the sought after first editions of two novels by Benjamin Disraeli, 'Coningsby' and 'Sybil.Both novels are complete in their original triple decker format in three volumes. Bound by Smyth & Co, Liverpool.Ex-institutional copies, formerly held at the St. Augustine Library, Our Lady's College Mount Pleasant.Suitable for rebinding. Bound without the half-titles and adverts.'Coningsby or the New Generation', published in 1844, is a political novel follow the career of the aspiring Henry Coningsby, the orphan grandson of a wealthy marquess, Lord Monmouth.'Sybil', published in 1845, is a novel about the plight of the working classes in England. This novel stemmed from Disraeli's interested in the Chartist movement, which was a working-class political reformist movement, seeking universal male suffrage, however it failed as a parliamentary movement. Benjamin Disraeli served twice as the Prime Minister, providing the groundwork for what would become the modern Conservative Party. His other works include the novels 'Vivian Grey', 'The Young Duke', and 'The Infernal Marriage', as well as some non-fiction works, such as 'The Present State of Mexico', 'Lord George Bentinck', and 'What Is He?' In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards, bound by Smyth & Co, Liverpool. Externally, the front board of 'Sybil' Volume II is detached but present. Leather is rubbed, resulting in loss of leather to the joints and extremities. Paper is a little faded with some minor marks. Spines are faded. Amateur repair to the joints, head and tail of the spine, and extremities, of 'Coningsby' Volume II. Institutional ink to the spines. Small crack to the head of the rear joint of 'Coningsby' Volume II. Small amount of loss to the head of the spine of 'Coningsby' Volume III. Rear hinge of 'Coningsby' Volume III is starting but firm. Front hinge of 'Sybil' Volume I is starting but firm. Institutional labels to the front paste downs, recto to the front endpapers, stamp and blind stamp to the recto of the front free endpapers. Institutional label erroneously pasted upside down to the rear paste down of 'Coningsby' Volumes I and III. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the occasional handing mark and spot. Blind stamp to the head of the title pages. Institutional stamp to the occasional page, including the final leaf of text to each volume. Date rubbed out from the title page of Volume I of 'Coningsby'. Title page of 'Sybil' Volume I is detaching. Good Only
