Title in red & black, photogravure frontispiece, numerous photos, maps (1 large colour folding), illustrations. Blue ribbed cloth, gilt lettering on front cover & spine, photo image mounted on front cover of the Valley, t.e.g. (minor bumping head of spine, slight shelfwear, couple leaves at rear w/ minor creasing, 1 small closed tear), VG- copy. First edition of this installment in the American Waterways series describing the longest river in New England, describing American Indian and colonial wars, pioneer development, building of industry, the locks, canals, steamboats, and the topography and geography of the Valley.
