Brown leather spine over brick red boards. Spine with gilt titles and images of coins (dulled). Top page edges gilt. Dark brown endpapers. Half-title present. Small ink stamp to verso of the title-page: "City Museum Coventry A.G.M. 303." Clean throughout with numerous illustrations within the text. VG. ** "Hyman Montagu 1844-1895 ; Lawyer, collector. FSA, Vice-President of the Numismatic Society. Educated at City of London School. Studied law. Awarded the Clifford's Inn prize. Began to collect coins from c.1878. Member of the Numismatic Society from 1882. Purchased important coin collections from Addington (English coins), 1883; William Brice of Clifton, 1887; M. Hoffman, dealer in Paris (Greek coins); Vicomte Ponton d'Amecourt (Roman coins); Marsham (English coins). Sold his collection of English coins from George I to Victoria in 1891 (Spink & Sons sale). Montagu Collection. The British Museum purchased coins from the sale of the Montagu collection in 1896-97 (including coins from the sale by Feuardent, Paris 20 April 1896).
