About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1927. Hardcover. Small 4to. Quarter burgundy calf with gilt spine lettering and lavender cloth. xii, 242pp. Frontispiece, full page and smaller line drawings, textured endpapers. Very good. Binding mildly edgeworn and a tad rubbed; schoolgirl's cute ownership signature on front pastedown ("Grade 4 room 4") and at top of front board; Christmas 1927 nonauthorial gift inscription on inner flyleaf ("Big hearts grow in big country"); faint inoffensive dampstaining near page bottoms of last third. Quite tight and decent first edition of the Canadian-American artist and cowpoke's fourth book, with his evocative illustrations throughout. HOWES J 55. RADER 2069. RAMPAGING HERD 1152.
