[Emerson, Ralph Waldo] Carlyle, Thomas. CRITICAL AND MISCELLANEOUS ESSAYS. Boston: James Munroe, 1838-9. 4 vols. First edition, first printings. Original blue-green cloth, gilt. Minor wear and a few stray marks, but a very attractive sharp set of this rare collection of Carlyle's works, edited by Emerson. The edition was 1,000 copies.
