About This Item
Boston: Estes and Lauriat, 1898. James Otis Kaler (1848-1912) was an amazingly prolific author of children's literature, with some two hundred titles writen under the name "James Otis" and several pseudonyms. He had several series; this title is part of "The Privateers of 1812 Series." Interestingly, Otis insists he is merely the "Editor" and includes a Note to that effect. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition; this title is surprisingly scarce, considering his output. Yellow cloth decorative binding, with the cover illustrating a sailing ship of the time surrounded by coiling rope. Clean text; 173 pages. Illustrated by A.B. Shute. Previous-owner signature on the FFEP. Mild bumps and some soiling to the covers. A very solid copy, and lacking any juvenalia. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. Illus. by A,B. Shute.
