Cincinnati: Harvey Publishing Company Book. Very Good. Hardcover. (1909), large 8vo, 496pp, index, illustrated. Extremities worn, couple of signatures starting, else G+. See Coleman 1562: " Biography of Dr. Drake, one of Kentucky's noted physicians of the pre-Civil War period and a seminal figure in American medicine, together with biographies of a number of physicians of his time and later. Also describes the Cincinnati medical schools and hospitals." Dr. Drake was born in New Jersey in 1785. His family moved to Mays Lick, Kentucky when he was three years old. He studied medicine in Philadelphia and Cincinnati, taught at Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and founded the Medical College of Ohio, (now the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine). He published many books in the field of medicine and his book, PIONEER LIFE IN KENTUCKY includes a wealth of information about early Kentucky social history..
