About This Item
London: Heinemann, 1959. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". None . A lovely copy of this novel by Indian author Balachandra Rajan, the first UK edition. The first UK edition of this novel by Balachandra Rajan, Indian diplomat and scholar of poetry and poetics, he published many critical works and some works of fiction. This novel deals with V S Krishnan's return to India after years spent in the West, to a marriage arranged by his family in a country uneasily awaiting independence. A tender love story as well as a vivid account of an important moment in Indian history. With the unclipped dust wrapper designed by Kassaboff. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely. The dust wrapper is very smart and unclipped with only minor shelf wear and a minor closed tear to the front wrap, internally tape repaired by a previous owner. With a minor inscription by a previous owner to the front free endpaper, dated 1962. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Near Fine
