Hard cover has slight bumping, card pocket inside back cover and small library stamps inside boards. DJ has light shelf wear, rubbing, and library sticker on spine. Book appears as if uncirculated, very clean pages. DJ in a mylar cover. Extensively illustrated with dozens of b/w photographs. "During the Second World War, Marie Mountain, from West Des Moines, Iowa, completed US Air Force training with the woman's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) , and then served at the Las Vegas Army Air Base. While away from home, she wrote nearly daily letters to her mother and father, keeping them informed of the adventures, joys and difficulties she encountered while participating in this ground-breaking national experiment: the first time women had been allowed to serve as pilots of military aircraft".
