Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1970. 323pp incl index. Full ochre cloth, gilt stamped letters. Covers and contents near fine. A few half-illus. Pictorial dj; spine and panel edges lightly toned, 2 inch verticle closed tear on spine, else good. During the First World War, 1915, Great Britain sent an army to capture Turkish held Baghdad, in order to protect its Middle Eastern oil interests. The campaign was botched and British found themselves surrounded by an Ottoman army in Kut. The British Empire forces surrendered in April 1916.. First American Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
