This is a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of the First Edition; text in French, naturlellement. Marbled paper-covered boards with red leather tips and spine. Five raised bands on the spine; stamped rules; gilt rules; black label with gilt titling. Clean text; 636 pages, marbled edges; marbled endpapers. Publisher's catalog of author's works opposite the title page. There is a contemporary (Aug. 1892) signature on the half-title page. Minor toning to the textblock. Spine has faded to more of a reddish-tan; minor rubbing to the tips. A lovely copy. First Edition. Half-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Synopsis

La Débâcle is a novel by Émile Zola published in 1892, the in les Rougon-Macquart series. The story is set against the background of the series of political and military events that ended the reign of Napoléon III and the Second Empire in 1870, in particular the Franco-Prussian War, the Battle of Sedan and the Paris Commune.
