About This Item

Norwalk, CT: Easton Press. Near Fine. 1980. Boccaccio's masterpiece consists of 100 tales narrated in ten parts by seven ladies and three young men who took refuge in palaces outside Florence to escape the Black Death. It was written about 1350-51 and first published in 1469 or 1470 in Florence. Edward Hutton, a Boccaccio biographer, provides the introduction. This book is beautifully bound in a full red leather binding with 22 kt gold spine and cover decorations. The spine has four raised bands with five decorated compartments. All edges are gilt, and the book has red silk moire end papers with a red silk ribbon bookmark. The pages are acid-free and they are smyth-sewn, not glued. This is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. There are no owner bookplates or owner names in the book. This is a very pretty book that would make a fine addition to any library and appears to have been unread. ; 100 Greatest Books Ever Written Series; B&W Illustrations; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 536 pages .
